About Cathleen Klibanoff

Cathleen Klibanoff Artist Statement

As an artist I feel compelled to advocate for intimacy. I hope to portray the value of connection- whether that is between mutualistic organisms, between people, man and nature or with a higher power. In order to achieve that goal, I embrace my vulnerability- my wabi sabi oath to appreciate the imperfect, impermanent and incomplete. I seek to reflect and amplify the softest voice and translate the deafening cries of the forgotten. Intimacy is not limited to bedroom vernacular. Intimacy is a gift born of voluntary vulnerability. Intimacy is the missing link in the circle of life.

I am an artistic advocate and spokeswoman for the network of voices echoing underground. I celebrate the wabi-sabi brilliance of the disenfranchised by following their jagged lines and emphasizing their mottled countenance with a blend of sculpture and painting. I prefer to work in larger format as if I’m hosting a cotillion, where pauper is celebrated as prince and elephant regarded as shaman. I am the channel through which the world can see and hear those that will no longer remain silent. I am a steward of stories whose moral is best to be flawed and interconnected than perfect and alone.
